Hi everyone, I’ve just registered here after browsing the site for a few days and watching the great YouTube videos.

I have always had an interest in body work and spraying but never actually done a lot of it, I’m 31 years old. I’m a truck mechanic by trade. Sadly with no real experience of auto body repairs I won’t be able to offer much to you guys but maybe I will chip in as and when I get more knowledge.
I have only ever sprayed tithe odd panel on cars which weren’t of any value.
I am in fact having a go shortly at spraying a new wing/fender on my car in the near future. I understand the mixing of paints etc and what size tip to use. I know I’ll have to blend the paint then clearcoat the full panels rather than trying to blend the c/coat.
The one question I have is do I have to flatten off the paint in between colours or not? On the videos it doesn’t show it and I thought it better to ask some pros first!
I’ll be using base coat/ clear coat. Colour is black metallic in case that makes a difference.

    Thanks

    Welcome to the site!

With base coat, you do not sand/scuff it. The only sanding/scuffing is when you initially prep the panel. From the time you lay your first coat of base, to last coat of clear, no sanding, just wet on wet application as it is called. Always get ahold of the tech sheet for the products you are using and follow the manufacturers directions.

Thanks Ben, that’s how it is on the videos but wasn’t sure if they’d missed parts out! Thanks for taking the time to answer
