    Hey Jimmo, I have heard the same thing as you about leaving the gun wide open for proper atomization and mil thickness. I had our rep leave his mil gauge with me for 2 weeks and I did a few different tests. I had to paint both sides of a car, on one side I left the gun wide open and on the other side I dialed it in a little. The end result after baking was that the side I dialed in looked a bit better and had the exact same amount of clear on it as the side I left wide open. I really don’t understand why other than with it being wide open it was letting more solvent get on the panel? If you can get a hold of a mil gauge from a rep they are fun to play with.

    i shouldn’t get a mil gauge, i know i’d waste a day measuring each car…. My rep let me borrow his infrared thermometer and I’ve got a bit too much time invested with that!! :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

    There really is a reason why they come out about the same.
    When you go wide open you go faster, to keep it from running.
    When you dial it down, you go slower to get it to flow.
    There’s really very little difference to the end result of mill thickness
    when you’re putting it on wet enough to flow out but dry enough to not run.
    It’s about the same.B)

    Here is another thought to throw into the equation.. When you dont “set up” your gun and just go balls out, your not atomizing the solvents at the tip of the gun as it is intended to do.. In essence you are spraying out big droplets of solvent on the panel that will have to shrink down, vs laying down correctly atomiozed small droplets that will shirnk much less as it drys because they were atomized at the tip..More food for thoughtB)
