just wondering what tips, tactics, whatever input you have on how you keep your shop organized. We have a hard time I find because each tech doesn’t have there own bay and it results in sandpaper, tools, everything….everywhere.

Our 3M rep is sending us a few carts to try supplying our techs each with one and get them to keep there own mess on there cart. We’ll see how that works, just wondering what idea’s are out there.

It should be the individuals responsibility. Assigned carts should definitely help. And they should clean up
after themselves too. Keeping brooms and dust pans nearby should be encouraging.

Alll of the shops equipment has a place its kept, there are painted lines on the floor where welders, jacks, and large things are to be located. There is shelving for hand held shop tools which is also labeled. The deal is when your done with a shop tool you immediately return it to its place. Every body man and painter has his own supplies and tools which he is responsible for. We also have a monthly report card for each employee which includes neatness as well as QC issues along with not following standard operating procedure. Its kinda like prison with pay, but when everybody does what were supposed to do its smooth sailing.
