ANY THOUGHTS OUT THERE?June 5, 2009 at 7:38 pm #14644your not the only one. dealerships around here that have been in business 75+ years are closing. some of the multi-line dealers around here that gm kept just had the cadillac franchises yanked from them.
Too many thoughts, really…
The surviving dealerships should do well in service and parts as they will be taking in all the abandoned customers…
In order for GM (and Chrysler) to compete, and perhaps, even thrive, they’ll need to make better vehicles than
the Japanese. What sad is that they could have, yet they didn’t for decades. They had all resources to do so…
I doubt they’ll win over customers and see any significant profit, or even start to build superior vehicles for another
15 years or so. And in the mean time, their competition will be advancing…My pops has had a repair shops for over 25 years now. Ironically, it’s been the overall poor quality of GM/Ford vehicles
that’s kept him in business; mainly fleet service for 3 local companies. Mostly cargo vans… If Toyota had a cargo van,
with the same quality as their pick ups, it could have been a different story…should open some doors for other body shops to take up the slack
If enough dealerships have body shops closing it will also open up the oppurtunity to
pick up some good staff also
I have heard from most of the customers that they will never buy gm again
The small community here are loyal to the dealership as they have devoloped friendships
over the years and fell like this is home for them so this is good news for usJune 5, 2009 at 9:30 pm #14647If I were a dealer owner that was notified that GM or Chrysler no longer needed me, The first calls I would be making would be to Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Tesla……Those companies looking to capitalized on the former big three’s weakness right now.
Seems like GM is forgetting who their real competition is.AnonymousJune 5, 2009 at 10:56 pm #14651I dont understand how they choose what dealers to close, the decisions up here are quite odd.
