Hi I’m new to the forum,
I plan on buying a LPH400 as it is highly recommended by alot of people, but since it comes in a verity of nozzle sizes and different caps I don’t know which one would be right for me.
I plan on using this gun for my base and clears.
I’m wanting to paint a metelic (blue/purple)ink colour (like the one in this picture below).
I have some spraying experience but never sprayed a whole car, just a few bonnets, body kits (and alike) which have turned out well.
And also how do you paint metelic colours? I thought I’d ask here first as I have yet to research into that area.
Thanks,
Attachments:April 27, 2011 at 6:38 pm #30540You’ll need the orange cap for base and the silver for clear. If you’ve never painted a metalic before, get some test panels and try first before painting your car. They are not that hard when the colour is dark in my rather limited experience. I’ve watched a bunch of YouTube videos posted by Jimmo and Bondo (and others) on this forum and they are excellent for getting a look at how it should go. Lots of tips for shooting a complete or just bumper covers etc can be found by searching the forum. The rest of the guys are very knowlegeable and have always helped me out a lot with my garage painter questions.
So my advice – pick a product line, get the data sheet, follow the instructions, practice, ask, practice, ask etc.
April 27, 2011 at 8:48 pm #30545Depends on the product. I have a 1.3 and find it a touch slow and when spraying UTech 3.5 high solids single stage it was painful and needed the 1.4. Most paint manufacturers produce a sheet that tells you what needle size for your gun for their product.
April 28, 2011 at 6:58 am #30578I have a lph 400 with a 1.3 and really wish that I had a 1.4. Seems that a 1.4 sprays metallics easier for some reason. I have all three caps and find myself using the orange cap for most of my work. But the silver tip will work better for clear. If I could have only 1 cap I would use the silver. I generally will use my w400 for clearing though, but a lot of people love the lph 400 for all of it. Iwata has a forum as well that will help you get you started for you settings.

April 28, 2011 at 5:58 pm #30603If I only could have 1 cap I would pick the orange myself. It does a pretty good job with clear and a very good job with basecoat. The silver is crap for base imo. the purple is very nice for metallics but is kinda funky to spray with as it has a very limited sweet spot. You can get the job done with the silver but I feel it falls short if you have to spray a difficult metallic. I also feel a 1.4 does better in the LPH.
I might even have a used LPH I would sell.
