We have at our shop a piece for a 2000 kawasaki ZRX1100. Their was nothing in our basf color catalog to find these colors. Its actually 3 colors: green, purple and white.

We checked with Kawasaki to get paint codes, they referred us to a website http://www.color-rite.com. The site gave us the proper names of the colors:

Pearl Jade Green -no paint code
Vivid Purple Mica -no paint code
Pearl Alpine White – with a paint code (628-1)

So the whites taken care off and comes up in our system. I was able to tint a fairly close purple. The green I’ll try to create, its the main color so I need it really close.

So if anyone has any advice for me here I’d appreciate it. I don’t know if you guys can try putting these color names into systems other than basf and seeing if something comes up in dupont, ppg,s&w…

Color-rite.com sells the paint but at $70 / half pint I’d rather find an alternative for this and future bikes we may have in.

Check SW Formula number 76828 for the green (which is Kawi paint code 617)

For the purple, try SW formula number 82684 (which only comes up as an AWX (waterborne) formula)

I checked the store locator – I think one of these should be near you

I’ve got an S&W jobber I use, thanks for the info. I’ll give him a shout tomorrow. How certain do you feel on the color? I don’t know if they’ll have any chips so I may have to order it mixed. I don’t really mind spending a bit of $$$ bringing it in to compare, but don’t really want to waste $$$ if your not really sure. thanks again.

yes I ran into this also and color-rite was the only place to get the paint and matching to a car color proved impossible.

    Good luck bro 🙁 B)

If you don’t mind checking when you get a minute I’d appreciate it. Btw Nighthawk, I checked that color out at color-rite.com and its a lime green that looks a lot brighter then the one on the bike. I don’t know if a paint code exists for this color or what. According to color-rite, which is what Kawasaki themselves referred us to, theirs no paint code. I’m guessing these colors will need to be searched by name. The proper names of the colors are above, thanks for your help so far guys.

Not certain at all Jimmo… I was just looking in the system to see what came up. I don’t know if your jobber will do this, but what I would do in a case like this is either provide the customer a 2 ounce sample to check the color, or do a sprayout card for him.

We really don’t get any info from the bike companies, and it’s generally not cost effective to spend much money on researching and developing bike formulas due to low volume – that’s why trying to find matching bike paint can be such a PITA some times.

I have some Kawi parts I’m going to send to our color lab pretty soon. Then we’ll have 7 Kawi formulas!

Same problem I have. I am just a hobbyist I guess. I work at a bodyshop on my days off of my full time job and I also have a little side business in which I repair/repaint motorcycles; “crotchrockets” as some call them. If I have a job to do back to factory I will have to buy from the rip-off formerly mentioned as color rite. But, beware, their paint is extremely thin when mixed like they call for it. It doesn’t cover very good so a ground coat of a similar color will help a lot.

I have found that HOK BC-25 black is a perfect match to Honda’s black. IDK about other manufacturers though. I mainly do Honda’s b/c as you can see all this along with 5-year old twin boys I don’t have much time. So, I stick to one manufacturer to keep it simple and slow for me. I have ‘panel painted’ several black fairings and have NEVER had a complaint on the match.

I have a site with some pics. I don’t do too much crazy stuff, but I’ve only been at it for 3 years and most of my business is internet based.
