What are some of the rep secrets or maybe questionable things your reps have told you. I’ve gotten a few in my day.

This was questionable, you basf guys can relate. Our troubleshooter had said he used DP20 as a wet-on-wet sealer on several occasions and went on to say theirs no problem doing it. He was very surprised when I pointed out that it said right on the TDS Do Not Use Dp20 as a Wet on Wet Sealer. Why does it say this then!!!! He didn’t really know.

thats one example that comes to mind. What have you heard?

We just had someone start with us who has many my rep told me stories. The one I question the most is he suggested we should be applying a plastic primer over top of primed bumpers. I see no truth is that, I’ve been informed that it gives you worse adhesion. Opinions??

We kept hearing from the dupont rep cut the balancer and binder to help it cover better.then they would come back and say we would never say that.that’s just before we told them to take a hike and got in standox.

I had a painter, the dupont user that introduced me to the system suggest the same thing. When I was mixing a formula he’d look over my shoulder and say, no you don’t need to add that…it won’t cover as good. Meanwhile I’m thinking, then why the hell would they put it in the formula???? thats interesting hearing you mention that.

I started out using dupont and up until we switched I took a look at some formulas that I had written down ages ago what they have done is reformulate the tint amount by at least 70% and just have 150k and 175k to finish it off.even 99k wouldn’t cover in less than 4 coats.

just remembered this one when we switched to standox my jobber put in new mixer and paint/primer and left dupont sealer and clear.now here comes the good part they said they would warranty jobs if we mix matched materials.so i went to standox site and checked warranty conditions . they will not warranty it as usual unless its standox start to finish. jobber kept say that wasnt true ya right. gave him until next day to get everything onto 1 line because i had my shop supply jobber chomping on the bit to set us up with RM.I wish we had a real supplier in my area i’m tired of all this halfassed excuses and service.last monday they left my 2600.00 order sitting on the loading dock and said they could bring it thursday. wrong answer. sent my wife over to get it 45 miles each way.thats 2 hours labor lost and a fuel surcharge.thats comming off the bill.

Adhesion promoter, then basecoat. No primer on primed plastic.

Not really. We like to see happy customers who don’t have a lot of re-do’s. Happy customers tend to stick around longer.

Standox is a DuPont owned product so I could see them covering on a warranty issue, even if they were not staying in the same family line.

If the primer is soluble, you take it all off and start from scratch. If the primer is not soluble, clean, scuff, clean, seal, paint, clear.
