I needed a steel brake line for a lincoln MKX that I was finishing up and didn’t want to splice it with parts store lines, and figured that OE would have the nice original bends. Well, it was just like original, but was $142 for a 6 foot brake line. Nice profit margin on that one for Ford.
May 13, 2009 at 7:22 pm #14304Buy it is a good plan. actually getting the part though is gonna be tougher so many things are on back order with no release dates. talked to a guy at from a chevy dealer yeasterday. he said there are 17 chevy dealers left in Connecticut and GM wants only 9 dealers in the state. so 8 more are gonna be closing up in the near future.
One of the largest Dodge dealers here in San Fernando Valley is closing it’s doors after 40 plus years.
Only one delivery guy left so i had to go pick up a small part myself. They’ll be gone in a matter of weeks…Buying OEM wont help. All domestic vehicles have/will drop in value. Who wants to buy a car from a
bankrupt company? It’s a downward spiral for them. And it hurts our businesses/lively hood.Wrecking yards and aftermarket part makers could see a slight increase in demand, however…
It’s terrible…
With the closing of so many dealerships, independent repair shops can do well (relatively).
Folks are holding onto their cars longer and trying harder to keep up with basic maintenance
(though they might drive around all banged up as i noticed). According to an old friend of mine,
whose been selling mainly motor to independent repair shops, he’s had a record April this year.
He services roughly 70 shops here in the valley and sales are way up.But collision repairs are down overall…
