i just wanted to share this bit of info I picked up off of my norton rep the other day regarding bumper repair materials. He tells me they fall into to different catagories, urethane based & epoxy based. (this is regarding all manufacturers)
Urethane based adhesives are made for speed and don’t generally sand well. They are a pain to topcoat/prime as it is more difficult to get your product to stick to it. You can not apply a polyester filler over top of these adhesives.
Epoxy based adhesives are made to sand well and still adhere. They are much easier to prime and these adhesives you can apply polyester fillers (putties) over them. The tradeoff here is slower dry times.
You can combine the two by applying a urethane on the underside for speed, then an epoxy on the cosmetic side. That way you can do a bit of filling with a polyester filler if necessary after sanding your epoxy.
I had always wondered why certain adhesives allowed fillers to be applied over them and some didn’t. You may have already known this, but if not here ya go. Feel free to add on to this.
