hey I haven’t posted in a while, having trouble with the Omni plus low voc basecoat, stuff always goes on seedy and dries too fast, seems like exact same problems as with transtar low voc base. always fighting with it..
as for the shopline clear I am using the jh780 speed clear, no matter what I do the stuff either seems to die, hit the floor on the second coat from trying to hide the gravel from the base, or orange peel like a bitch. I have been spraying the base with sata 3000 hvlp 1.4@26 psi and the clear I spray close and fast at 40 psi for the first coat and 36 for the second. Definitly need some input on how to succeed with these two products as ive been fighting with them for the past 4 weeks.. I always let my base sit for 20 mins before clear, 15 mins inbetween coats, and let my clear flash until hand slick before the second coat.
thanks ! btw using sata 4000rp with 1.3 for clear.

Try this, use a slower reducer for the base, & slow down when spraying both clear & base. The rp 1.3 tip isn’t exactly for speed, & turn the psi down to 29-32 for both coats. when clearing. The rp isn’t design to be sprayed @ the psi your using.
Since your using a speed clear, u may need to use a slower hardener or reducer as well.

I found with the transtar you have to pour the base on so its smooth. If it needs to be blended its gonna be a disaster as its like spraying sand as soon as it has any travel time. Mine is the zero voc so the reducers all suck. The clear on the base would die back in a couple hours and I had some that were really bad. Would not die back on the sanded clear, just the base, flash times did not matter could wait hours and the same. I had some tints that would basically spray chunks, didn’t matter how many times it was filtered it would blob on the panel. I have been using a different low voc basecoat that is a little better. Genrock. Color match is just as bad but the clear does not die back and it technically can be blended. Metallic control is really hard when you have to spray it soo wet. It stays like it is sprayed even though flash times are long. I still hate it. I use DuPont clear on top of it.
I use to have a real hard time with the first coat of clear when the base is soo rough you can’t tack it.
If I had to use this stuff in a real shop I would quit. My situation is messed up, can’t get it fixed so I don’t care anymore.
I have no good advice on how to use crappy base.
