no experience with solvent and I spraying transtar no mix in a light silver. im all based but from the side it’s not 100 percent uniform like water. looks like mottle.. completely smooth when I tack though, an uniform from front view… is this normal? also, sanding is the only way to fix dry spray? I can’t over reduce an possibly melt the dry spray? if not what’s the fastest way to fix dry spray? and what happens if I spray too wet? and on the can of this transtar it says 1 to 1.5 reduction but the website says 2 to 1? anyone? I
October 2, 2011 at 9:48 pm #33327Transtar no mix is junk,it needs more reducer to spray right which defeats the low voc purpose, not even close to traditional solvent base coat.If you have dry spray it could be a few things, spraying technique, wrong reducer(silver needs slow or extra slow depending on heat) too small of a fluid tip,too much air pressure. What is happening is it is drying before it hits the surface=mottling.Get some slow reducer and mix it 2:1,scuff your base with 600-800 to knock down the rough spots and re-spray.

thank you jason. I thought your not supposed to drop coat solvent? I’ll try what u suggested
October 2, 2011 at 10:51 pm #33332Who told you that??Some solvent bases have excellent metallic control and a drop coat is not needed, others must be drop coated.Read your TDS.You really aren’t using a solvent base coat, you are using a low voc crappy base coat, not even in the same league.

yes sansei, last one, am I supposed to look 100 percent uniform after basing? and also, the drop coat made it feel like 220 grit.. but it looks more uniform
October 2, 2011 at 11:08 pm #33334Yes it should look perfect, can’t help you if you have the wrong reducer,if it feels like 220 your pressure is too high, and reducer is to fast.
