HUNDREDS of supporters queued up at the KC Stadium as the first Wembley tickets went on sale for Hull City’s historic first FA Cup Final.

Some fans queued overnight to make sure they were first in line for tickets for the eagerly awaited final on Saturday, May 17, against high-flying Arsenal.

The first to get their hands on Wembley tickets were Jez Huyton, 48, and son Will, ten, who began queuing at 6pm on Tuesday.

After snapping up his tickets at 8am on Wednesday, Mr Huyton said: “I thought I was mad to do it but the last time I queued was for the Championship play-off final a few years ago and I didn’t get there early enough.

“I was queuing for hours on end.

“This was a long night. My son joined me for a while until his mum took him home and then he rejoined me in the morning.

“About ten of us were here through the early hours and then the queue started growing from about 5am, with hundreds here by the time the ticket office opened.”

West stand season card holder Mr Huyton, of Cottingham, was delighted to secure tickets for himself, his wife Vicky and son Will.

Will was also excited to be presented with a pair of signed Jake Livermore boots as a reward for being first in line.

Mr Huyton said: “It was worth queuing overnight.

“It’s unbelievable just to get to a final when you think four years ago, the club was almost going out of business.

“There were a lot of fans in the queue pinching themselves, thinking ‘We’re going to the FA Cup Final and we could be playing in Europe.’ It’s a fantastic feeling.”

Mr Huyton, who has been following the Tigers for 20 years, said: “Premier League survival is the priority, but the final will be the icing on the cake.”

Retired teacher Roy O’Brien, of Keyingham, queued up from 4.30am on Tuesday for tickets.

Mr O’Brien, 76, has watched Hull City since 1948, going regularly since the 1990s.

He said: “I am a bit against queuing, as it ought to be possible to do it online, but it was worth it to get my ticket.

“It was chilly at 4.30am but I’m delighted to have my ticket. I chose one of the more expensive seats with it being such a special occasion.”

He was joined in the queue by friends including Peter Martin, 71, of Swanland.

Retired production director Mr Martin said: “We are extremely excited. We will probably never go again in our lifetime.”

Hull City’s marketing and online commercial manager James Mooney said the stand-by-stand Soccer Shoes Cheap sale of tickets, which gives fans the option of buying in person or by phone, aims to speed up the process.

For the semi-final, fans had the option of returning an application form.

The revised sales process aims to give fans more time to organise travel and accommodation, to avoid price hikes near the date of the final.

Mr Mooney said: “We have done it this way to speed the process up.”
