Just got started on this a few hours ago. It’s a job from a teacher’s sister at my school. I been pretty busy lately with bumpers so I can’t complain. I get them Friday after work and have them done by Saturday Evening. Plastic welded it, then some fusor 142 on the front and back. Should see paint tomorrrow.

Looks good. Did you use the 1.2

    February 26, 2012 at 5:16 am #35985

Yea used the 1.2, I need more jobs with it to see if I can tell a difference. Seemed to flow on nicer though

    February 26, 2012 at 5:30 am #35986

Looks f-ing great Nex. Can’t complain about that at all.

    Getting tired of bumpers yet?

    February 26, 2012 at 5:33 am #35987

    nice work. :clappy

    Thanks Ben,

Honestly, I am perfectly cool with only doing bumpers. Working as a school teacher, I am looking for the job that takes a day or two to complete on the weeken. Bumpers fit that time citeria and they come off the car so I can put them in my booth. Bumpers usually are the first part of the car to get damage, so the business comes easier. I am sure painting doors or hoods/fenders will be a part of my future but I don’t want to walk down that road unless the car is in a real booth. I sort of enjoy specializing in bumpers, as I can work the plastic without needing special tools used for metal.

Another top shelf job Nex… seems like you’ve got a niche in the bumper refinish market and by the work you’re putting out, you’ll be keeping busy!

    Another great job Nex.

I ought to send you this bumper I’m repairing for a mate. It’s a very rare type for a VW Golf that’s almost irreplaceable. He’s split it from one side to the other, over 3 feet long! It’s taking a hell of a lot of Fusor

Out of interest, what primer do you use over the 142? Do you go straight for a 2K high build, or do you put a plastic primer / adhesion aid on first? And have you ever tried the 114 finishing adhesive?

Plastic Welder is awesome. What more could be better then actually fusing the plastic back together with the assurance of Fusor 142 over top and behind. The best present I have ever gotten.

I would apply that fusor in thin coats. if you build it thick, it will create air pockets and the pockets will heat up and create bubbles in the finish.

I am using FP410 over all my repairs, I love that primer, it is the only product I have consistantly used. I use the fusor adhesion promotor before the fusor 142. It is a must in my opinion. I don’t use a/p before primer though, since it is has already a 180-220 grit scratch. As for the 114, I haven’t tried it, but others like it. I am using the upol 706, i needed to level out the surface a bit,

Thanks for that. It’s good to hear what products and techniques others are using.

Like you I try and hot weld wherever possible (this bumper won’t :cens ) then reinforce with Fusor. And again I always use the AP (6062?) before the 142. I do use the 114 myself, and like it a lot, but the 1-2 minute work time doesn’t give you long to smooth and shape it out. Sometimes its a case of slap some on and hope for the best 😆
