I am thinking about a new gun for base. I have had a sata nr2000 for about 8 years. I am currantly using an Iwata Lph400lvb(purlpe cap) It does a good job but I am not 100% happy with it. I have been tossing aroud the idea of a new Sata 3000 hvlp. I dont like the price of them but my ol 2000 is still going strong. Its had two rebuilds on it though. What are your guys opinion on the 3000?

You could try a change to the orange air cap on the Iwata, that cap is supposed to spray 95%of base colors.Personaly I’m not an Iwata fan,but if you have a nr2ooo and it has served you well, then you will be happy with a new 3000 hvlp.I use one for waterborne basecoat and it works flawlessly with pearls, metallics, and tri stage. The best clear coat gun is without a doubt the 3000rp,a big improvement over the first gen rp.

Thought about the RP. I used one with a 1.2 in it and only used it for clear. You could lay glass with it! I just wasnt sure how well it would work for base coat metallics and blends. You have good luck with yours?

I have used the orange cap a few times and Im just not that impressed with it. It works well with solid colors but I have trouble with it using it with metallics. I acually prefer the purple cap to the orange one

I’ve been using my NR2000 for 7 years. It’s beat up but still shoots
great. And only 1 rebuild which it didn’t even need. Damn good gun.

But if you want to try something new, go for it! One can never have
    too many guns. 😛

nothing is wrong with the first gen rp,but once you use a new 3000rp you won’t use the old gun.Trust me once ya try one you will understand, softer spray, wider fan, just a better gun.The rp3000 will shoot base just fine even candies, pearls and all the tough colors.I only use my rp for clear.A great gun for base is the devilbiss plus,I used that and an first gen rp for basecoat for many years.
