Hello everyone, just want to say I joined this community forum to learn all I can about auto body, mostly paint tho. I’ve painted A LOT of things with rattle cans over the years with shocking outcomes. My whole interior is H-D denim black :rock . I’m 22 and I work at my local Harley-Davidson dealer and I’ve been using our spray paint and it’s amazing. I’ve been working on and building my own car for a few years now and never really got into body work or detailing at all until 3 weeks ago when I decided to look into how to detail, what materials to use etc and my car went from scratched and swirled to AMAZING in a day. I must say, there’s NO better feeling. SO much more enjoyable and satisfying then busting knuckles all day every day. Then last weekend I decided to paint two sets of Mitsubishi Enkei rims, one set was powder coated black and faded so I hit it with Harley denim clear finish and the other set I used a wire brush on my power drill and grinded the surface down to raw metal (took hours!), then shot them Harley texture black. They turned out AMAZING! Excuse my camera and dirty car, these pictures do no justice. Here are a few before and afters of the interior work, detail and rims if anyone cares to see…

    Before

Before here, you can see TONS of scratches all over, not an inch of the car was smooth. I did wash, clay bar, wash, buff, polish.

Basically, I know nothing about painting. The only things I know are common sense to me and what I’ve picked up doing my own stuff and what I can find on Youtube. I’ve never had a bad experience yet (knock on wood). I really feel a huge passion for painting and I feel that I’m ready for a real paint gun and bigger jobs. I’m starting with a DeVilbiss Finish line gun and a hood from a scrap yard and will soon be doing my own hood and front bumper as soon as I feel I’m ready. Of course I have a TON of questions but I’ll start searching first. :cheers

That’s good to hear, this looks like a good informative forum. I’m not in a position to drop everything for a school so I’ll follow the passion with all of my extra time. I CAN’T wait for my first gun to get here, I feel like a kid nearing Christmas. I’m going to start in my garage for all the practice and learning possible, then take it to our unused paint booth at work for my bumper/hood. I figure the best way to get my name out for good paint is by doing my own stuff and showing it off.

If you guys have any great informative threads you recommend reading, post them up here. Until then I’ll keep searching.
