I have a part gal. of valspar solar system, universal intermix paint and bought another gal. of the paint to make sure that I had enough to do everything that I need to do on the car. When I bought the new gal., the jobber told me that I can use urethane reducer with the paint. The last gal. that I bought, he sold me basecoat stablizer to use. He says that you can use plain urethane reducer now. Can this be true? And if it is, why would they have sold stablizer last year and then change? Thanks for any help that you may give to this.

AnonymousAugust 6, 2009 at 6:04 am #15188I just had a look and what they call a stabalizer is just a reducer, any urethane grade reducer should get the job done.

AnonymousAugust 6, 2009 at 2:05 pm #15199does yours have activator built in bondo? I noticed there was an optional activator available in the valspar sys.
August 6, 2009 at 7:22 pm #15202Yes, There is an activator that is optional. Add two oz. per quart of spray able paint. Wonder if I can use it? Suppose to be used to help metallics flow.
AnonymousAugust 6, 2009 at 7:49 pm #15204I’ve never heard of it helping the metallics flow but it will improve durability & adhesion.
