I’ve got a customer thats become somewhat of a friend.

Last year he was let go from Mijack. No luck finding anything in the meantime. Luckily, he still lives at home. So he has lots of free time.

I had no clue he even played guitar, let alone knew how to do this.

He’s building Guitars out of his garage at home with hand tools.
This is his first hollow body electric. About his fifth guitar total.

He’s got this one sold already, and the customer wanted custom paint.

Covering the veneer with envirotex lite. Gives depth, seals the grain, and gives me something to level off.

Priming the sides/ neck to fill grain

Done, Candy cobalt blue over quilted maple veneer. Sides/ neck Mercedes black/ half inch fade over edges of face.

He hasn’t even seen it yet, but I already told him he isn’t going to want to let it go.

2 of the first ones he did and had me paint.

We’re talking about building one of the next ones out of Carbon Fiber.

I’ll upload pics of that one for sure.

Oh, He’s also doing all the electrnics in the guitars himself also. Buiding the effects into the bodies themselves.

    That looks awesome.

    Great job both of you!

I bet a custom woody wagon would look amazing with panels like that…

Gave me some more ideas… thanks! You got another karma! 😉

Thanks all for the positive feedback. I was really pleased with how it turned out. Ran into some problems with them along the way, but nothing drastic. I’ll try to get out of him how much these things go for tomorrow when he picks it up.

I think he’s been showing these around, because he’s been asking about pricing for straight repaints for other guys. Bad thing is, I’ve probably got 30-40 hours in this one with the bare wood. No way I could get that out of most refins on a guitar for now. Still nice beer money.

    Looks great!

I’d recommend getting some better epoxy. I don’t like that envirolex crap

30-40 hours better more than beer money! i hate seeing people lose.
Yes, i’ve lost um… too much on a few jobs…
