We just bought a old ford van to fill up with scrap metal and return, conveniently the scrap place is 2 seconds away from us. We got $140 cash for the van full. Its maybe 2 weeks worth, I couldn’t believe how much they were paying for it. A few weeks ago they gave us just over 500 for a dead 94 caravan. The ford van we bought for $300 so we could scrap it for a profit! I can see why their are so many scrap metal guys out their. Anyone else cashing in??

April 29, 2008 at 3:56 pm #10259Scrap is just going crazy high around here. It seems in a weakening economy precious metals go on the rise, but I cant figure the corrolation of scrap steel going through the roof.
I heard on the news people were beginning to steal man-hole covers! A local dealer is losing cat converters off new cars like crazy. I never thought I’d see so much theft of generally worthless things, like porch benches and light fixtures.
You would think the scrap dealer/purchaser would ask some simple questions like “where did you get 50 new converters, and 25 man-hole covers?”, but they don’t seem to.
At ant rate, it’s good for the honest man, but like anything else, it doesn’t take long for the crooks to catch on. Lock up your lawn furniture!,LOL!

AnonymousApril 29, 2008 at 5:30 pm #10260We had a cut cut off a vehicle at the side of our ship in broad daylight. I don’t know how nobody saw it, thats ballsy. Their was a guy somewhere around here that killed himself stealing copper wire from a live powerline. I guess coppers insane too.
July 1, 2008 at 12:32 am #10862I think jimmo was saying the $ he got for the scrap inside the van, he stated later in that post that he bought the van for $300 and could probably scrap that and make a profit.
AnonymousJuly 1, 2008 at 1:05 am #10863Skiski’s got it, ya i didn’t scrap the van. the $140 was for the scrap inside.
