Shopline,Omni,Nason,Dimension….these are all decent low-mid grade solvent base/clear systems. :deadhorse
Not sure about any low end water bases.
Call your local supplier that carries one of these and you should come out well under 700 bucks.
i already got an estimate from local store, it came out to $550 for DBU paint and PPG 2002 clear, i am not going to shoot omni or shopline basecoat on my car… awful paints, just plain awful! im thinking of getting DBC paint instead of DBU! as a student i get 10% discount at most paint stores around here! :rock and 50% from snap-on:rock :rock :rock :rock :rock 👿

December 14, 2010 at 2:12 am #26168

The car looks BEAUTIFUL!!!! i hope to see it in person one day around here! i stay in houston as well! just one question buddy, how did you set up your gun? i actually went out and bought the same harbor freight gun you have after seeing your videos! just wondering how you set up the fluid needle and fan along with the psi! thanks! once again, the buggy looks awesome! :rock
Thanks! Hopefully we’ll run into one another.
I set the fan to its widest setting. Fluid, 2 1/2 turns out. The psi at the hand was 40 – 45 psi. The psi may seem high, but these cheaper guns need more psi to atomize the paint like a more expensive gun would.
thank you very much!! ill keep that in mind next time i paint! it is a great gun for the price tough!
December 13, 2010 at 9:57 am #26163
I think he means DT895 and yes its PPG
yes its dt895 i saw on tcp global… is there really a difference in reducers? between slow and warm and medium and fast? other than drying times?December 13, 2010 at 9:38 am #26160
like i said 2002 has done me well for my all overs. for the nicest flow out i like to use dt95 reducer takes a little longer to dry, but i don’t have to worry about orange peel.
as noted 3000 is best for air drying, i like the 4000,it reminds me of a fast drying 2021. we quit useing 2042 becuase if its dieing issue but mainly, the yellowing problem. but you would want to use 2042 for a all over dries too fast.
as for a top clear the only brand i know of is house of color, maybe duponts glamor clear, i’m sure ppg has something, but these clears are best for show cars, not something you’ll drive on a daily basis. it’s not practicall to spend that much for a dd car.
the dt95 reducer is also from ppg as well right??
December 11, 2010 at 7:25 pm #26097
like ryan said. 3000 is good for non booth conditions. 4000 never really impressed me
2042 dies and is very yellow.
2002 and 2021 are about their best clears.
if you want to use ppg then pick one of those 2
Thanks ding! im planning on going with 2002! any other clears that are top of the line that you all might reccomend?

December 11, 2010 at 8:07 am #26083

looks really nice!:rock after you finished blocking it and primed it again, what did you sand it with before you shot basecoat?
thanks fox, blocked with 180, then 400, then machined with 600. for the 2nd coat i used 600 grit dry on a soft interface pad, sprayed 2 coats base and sanded again but with 1200 grit wet, then 2 more coats of base. tried to limit any buffing on this thing because its a limo.
i was asking because it seems to have no orange peel! so im guessing the trick is to reduce the orange peel on the primer before you shoot basecoat?

December 10, 2010 at 2:31 am #26056
$450 a gallon. Man someone is getting butt raped. It’s $197 for 5 liters here. I am not sure there is a clear out there I would pay $450 for.
You will have good luck with both 2002 and 2021. They are both nice clears. Are you shooting in a booth or a garage?
I will be spraying it at school in a devilbis booth, with bake and everything! i just want to get a top of the line clear, something i know will last long n shine good! :rock
December 9, 2010 at 12:46 am #26025ive seen some shopline clears but i was told that the shine of those dies of real quick! all im really wondering is witch clear is the best, i dont mind paying a good amount for a good clear!
November 22, 2010 at 7:51 am #25424i found the lph-400 for $347 and the supernova for $490, both brand new! only the gun tough!
