No, that’s just the filler work. I’m just getting started on the skim coat before poly. :wak

I’m hacking this one up in style.

    It’s one beat up pile.

    I’m so ashamed.

Next, a skim coat of glaze and some poly primer.

Don’t worry Dennis, Now that that Intrepid is gone, you probably won’t be working on anything new enough to need it.

It just lifts rubber trim off the panel your painting.

Only times I use poly is when I have a bunch of filler over a large area or on wavy fiberglass. If the metal is straight to start with there’s no need for it. Poly over epoxy is fine. Lots of resto guys poly everything. Just depends on the situation for me.

It’s one of the best clears I’ve ever used at any price.

I got talked into a few of those before. If I remember correctly the sets I did were weld on kits even though the factory doors were bolt on.

That’s one of those things where I’d have to know the customer really well before I’d agree to do it.

You’re asking for trouble if it’s just some random walk in customer.

    Probably best to walk away.

What’s the harm in a few light scotchbrite marks on a weathervane that sits on the roof?

We aren’t talking about clearing highly polished valve covers here……

If the goal is to make clear stick to it to keep it from weathering?,,,, the process I used on that aluminum box works,,,,, can’t imagine the results on copper would differ all that much,,,

    January 9, 2010 at 8:08 am #18506

I’d scotchbrite it and clear it myself.

I bet I’ve cleared 20-30 aluminum toolboxes an dogboxes for guys over the years, never had a single one peel……. yet.

This thing has been cleared for 12 years now. always outdoors.

Thanks, In that case, here’s a few more I’ve done over the years.

This one came back about a year after I did it the first time for a hood modification after some chassis work created some clearance issues.

Shame I never bothered to take any pics of this blue ’67 I did years ago. It’s still one of my favorites.

Did this ’67 RS for a good freind of mine. Pretty nice car with a 383, Tremec 5 spd, hydraboost/Baer brake setup.
