Wow, great find. I’ve done (refinished or painted or had painted) a few guitars. Own a newer Strat with ’69 Abbey pick-us so I’m very jealous of your dumpster dive.

Why would you throw away a telecaster? Stolen?

Anyway, the fellow suggesting copper is right, it can help, but the guitar wasn’t shipped that way. Still can’t hurt. I used the copper tape that is used to keep snails and slugs away from valuable plants, peel and stick, on the Strat, cheaper than a guitar specific application, it works great at half the price. (HINT: Overlap the joints)

Fender used to be real picky about replacement decals, (60’s HS Band Jazz bass, beat to death) so if the headstock is in decent shape and has the Fender decal, don’t refinish the front of the head. Basically, if this is from a dumpster, and you have no provenance you will never get a replacement decal. Feel free to re-do the back of the neck if needed, very light rag applied urethane (IMO).

Have fun with it. Any new pics? What Pick-ups?

Just closed a 4 year (profitable) business, not painting, made money, but it wasn’t ‘all profit’…
Some folks thought I had a house made of gold bricks, hahhaah…

Many times the owner puts in unknown hours. You may see him 40 hours, but it’s more like 80
in truth. He may be looking at that, as I did. Sometimes you say (as an owner), ” I could make more money as a butcher…”

And maybe that’s true… hats off, to the business owner that might make less (hourly) than an hourly employee, happens often.

:weights not always as easy as it seems…

I’ve noticed that moniker too, “Enjoying the fumes” … I love this place.

Specially the way you all treated the high school guy, going to the painting competition. Thumbs up !

Thanks for the welcome all. Makes me feel good.

Thanks Smooth. I’ve seen your avatar a few times, haha… Reading a ton of stuff, watching vids and learning. I plan on investing in good tools (ex-carpenter) and trying to absorb all this. Back to the education… :teach
