Too many thoughts, really…
The surviving dealerships should do well in service and parts as they will be taking in all the abandoned customers…
In order for GM (and Chrysler) to compete, and perhaps, even thrive, they’ll need to make better vehicles than
the Japanese. What sad is that they could have, yet they didn’t for decades. They had all resources to do so…
I doubt they’ll win over customers and see any significant profit, or even start to build superior vehicles for another
15 years or so. And in the mean time, their competition will be advancing…My pops has had a repair shops for over 25 years now. Ironically, it’s been the overall poor quality of GM/Ford vehicles
that’s kept him in business; mainly fleet service for 3 local companies. Mostly cargo vans… If Toyota had a cargo van,
with the same quality as their pick ups, it could have been a different story…Are you referring to those “glue on” type deals? Nope, haven’t tried those…
But i do call in a PDR guy sometimes. He was here this Monday taking out a few dings.
I need to learn and always ask him where to start and how it’s done. Basically, you go
by feel and “restretch” the dent/ding…This guy stays busy. I’m in wrong business…Thinking of getting a starter kit like this one: http://www.dentrix.ltd.uk/index.php?page_id=3&page_name=tool-info-and-advice
You can’t have enough lights. And shining through plastic doesn’t sounds adequate at all.
Seems like you have enough space for a dedicated booth. Something you can build yourself.
Study commercial booths and the strategically placed light fixtures. This may give you some ideas: http://autobody101.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10122&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
Haven’t tried any waterborne paints yet. Many shops are having issues of one sort or another.
Lately i’ve been trying out Transtar NoMix (low VOC); did 2 tri coat jobs with excellent results.
Of course, the guy who did the color match is very good. The base is very thick and covers
extremely well. Also been trying out Limco Supreme, over all, it sucks, but extremely cheap
which is great for just that, cheapie jobs. Though the color match isn’t great (metallics), i can
pass the savings on to customers (around $12 bucks a pint). And, i still have plenty of Chromabase,
old stock that i’ve doubled or trippled the mixes for popular colors and regular accident prone customers. This might interest you. But you’ll need to sign up.

For course sandpapers this is the way to go. Gotta ditch the stick it type as the velcro is superior.
Welcome Kevin! You found the right forum. A 40×60 man cave…now that’s plenty of room for one man.
Materials… There’s plenty out there to choose from. But if you want great materials with excellent support,
look into SPI products. Several forum members here – including myself – are using it.Besides color, just about everything is covered.
Let’s see some pics of the man cave!
