PDR absolutely has it’s place. It really is an art… Once in a while i’ll call a PDR specialist or give out their number.
I was told that one can teach 20 guys and perhaps 1 or 2 will actually be decent at it. This sounds normal…Thanks for the pics! I’ve been meaning to get into PDR.
How about a dedicated PDR forum?
Note: Toyota (and maybe others) does not approve of PDR…
This is really a huge topic/issue…it makes the industry look really bad. I thought about giving a small commission for referrals
which is no big deal, really. But there is fine line… There are MANY shops “greasing” field appraisers too…There is a shop across the street from me working on high-end cars and they seem to have a steady flow of them.
However, i completely disagree with their repairs (things you might do for a used car lot dealer). I even thought about
approaching a few of the owners but it’s not a line to cross.I’m glad the customer made the right choice!
What a sweet booth and setup! That would be a dream for me.
And with Chromabase, 8-9 coats minimum for metallic reds. More like 12. But now i lay down a few coats
of solid red after sealing (either reduced epoxy or 2K). Glad it’s not such a common color…It’s a lot of film build and the way the flares sit flush with the panels, the paint has to be cured well.
Otherwise, it will dig into the paint easily should someone lean on them.Hm… There are lots of bargain hunters there. But these days, even the well-to-do are bargain shoping.
It’s not a bad idea. The demographic group is huge and i wouldn’t underestimate the potential.I’m on Craigslist a lot just looking around. Thinking of selling a few items myself.
For “Auto body” in the LA area, i get 35 listings:

I just might try it myself…
I check this forum often so email notifications aren’t needed. And it’s just too many for each every reply (redundant).
The “Latest Post” section on the right is also a bit redunant. How about bring up only latest post for each thread?Jimmo, I think you have something good here. And i like that it’s geared more towards guys like us. But this forum
is not newbie friendly. How about a “welcome/intro” on the main page (not in columns)?Sorry to be nit picky but i was a graphic designer and built a few sites in the mid 90’s. And worked in colaboration
with a few others about 6 years ago (commercial and informational sites). Aside from looking good, efficiency is
always a priority. “Simplicity” works better at attracting viewers than something “flashy”. Ebay, Google, Craigslist are
incredibly simple. Autobody101 and the like aren’t “good looking” but is direct and highly efficient… OK, enough of
that.Passing thoughts as primer dries… 🙂
I’ve been messing different products for a while now. Presta, 3M, and Meguiars are all excellent. The 3M Ultrafina should be
a must have in anyones arsenal… There are better, less popular, products out there (same price range $40/qt) that will
impress you. But, for stuff you can get locally, Presta and 3M products are fine. It really comes down to technique and a
good understanding of abrasives. Excellent reads below.Deminishing abrasives:
