You know I am starting to see a lot more of that kind of work compared to 20yrs ago, funny how things change and some people don’t care, but on the flip side people with new vehicles are more picky than 20 years ago :wak That emblem looks b!tchin Jack, you better start a new slogan “Uh oh better get Jaaco” :clappy :rofl :rofl :rofl
February 17, 2011 at 4:13 am #28621
guess they dont teach you guys how to take anything apart.. Would make sanding go much faster if some things were removed..
Good call Joe :rock It also makes me cringe when people put filler or polyester putty over paint, that just leaves sand scratches, and an uneven surface to prime over.If you ask your primer to do to much eventually you will get shrinkage.Good job for first time, keep it up and you will learn.February 17, 2011 at 1:51 am #28604Please put on a shirt you guys  or use a pic of your girlfriend with her shirt off :clappy
February 16, 2011 at 8:47 am #28571Energy pro is a good clear as long as you use superior 250 hardener with it.If you use it with energy pro hardener it is very fast, even with slow it would be a challenge to spray a whole side.I’m sure they will come out with an extra slow reducer. The hardener swap comes from the western canada training center and we have been shooting this clear since Last june mixed this way with no issues.
Superior 250 can be used with lv accelerator to speed up your jobs, and it doesn’t affect the gloss what so ever.If you use it with fast reducer and accelerator it is great for bumper covers or a panel or two and it will get out of dust relatively fast.If your booth can maintain 70-80F you will have no problems. What our shop has done is stock both clears and use one hardener, but you still have to stock the seperate activators for energypro and superior. We use energypro on the quicker jobs and 250 on thew larger jobs. You could also look at U-tech HS-21 clear,it will work over waterborne and it has a nice look to it.Hope this helps you out.

February 14, 2011 at 5:29 am #28483I’m sure no one is finished yet, just don’t want him to kick himself in the balls with autowave.Thats what we are here for :stoned :clappy
February 14, 2011 at 4:48 am #28480Akzo in calgary is awesome, make a call to Scott hefley or to Glenn(tech rep) and explain what is going on with your shop. They would be more than happy to come out and make sure you are up to speed with the product and proper application technique, that is what they are there for. They want you to have a good experience with autowave, and it will save you and the shop any hassle and unwanted headaches.
February 14, 2011 at 12:30 am #28464You need to drop your pressure for your control coat along with 12-14 inch distance, that is important for color match I’m not just saying that for fun it is taught in the application course.I know other painters in my area that use the 1.4 in there tekna year round for autowave and found a huge all around improvement.I run a sata 3000hvlp with a 1,4 HC all year round and have had no troubles,1.3 is not going to give you the film build and you will have trouble with difficult colors due to over-atomization and going on too dry IMHO.
February 14, 2011 at 12:03 am #28461Definately move up to the 1.4,that is the recomended tip for autowave.I had to use a 3000hvlp with a 1.3 for a demo before we switched to autowave,it was difficult to put it on wet enough and was challenging to do the drop coat without going on dry.I have had many a day in the summer when 40-50% reduction was needed for metallics with 888C/888EC to lay out properly.Don’t drop your pressure as much as EHP for your control coat,a few psi will do.

It will help. Of course, with such low humidity here and the blowers on the wall it does dry relatively fast.
But you said it dried slow….February 12, 2011 at 8:47 am #28391Nice work Darren looks smooth :clappy Looks like the tekna is working for you :dnc

One night my buddies and I wrecked a mint low mile 4speed car when we were in high school  kind of a shame. It’s nice to see these cars getting fixed up now :stoned
