I have a vaper gun 1.4 I use it to seal. Once to paint a part its only good for sealing.
June 22, 2011 at 3:04 am #31381U did a good job for a second timer. Next time don’t try to go for coverage in 2 coats. Most times it takes 3-4 coats og color. U might also use a correct color sealer for faster coverage. Plus a 1.2 tip isn’t what u want get a 1.4 tip & possibly a better gun to spray with. That would cut down on some buffing time. But like others side you’ll get better if u stick with. Hell my first paint job, I ran the clear all over the whole truck. Look real good when it was raining.
June 22, 2011 at 1:00 am #31379My feeling is this, if you still see bluryness, or the panel doesn’t looks as good or better than you didn’t buff enough to get all the sand scrathes out before polishing. Or you didn’t let the panel dry enough before buffing, & the sand scrathes are comeing back thru, its real important that u learn thewindow of time for the paint u use before buffing.
June 20, 2011 at 1:45 am #31347the only ones i need to tint are one’s that have been painted on from previous damage. but i don’t tint like before, now, i try to stay in the recomended varraints of a color, and if the prime matches but the mets. are a little off, and say a lighter varriant may have the right mets. i will mix the two to get the right match, done that 3 times, and if none of the varriants match i will find some thing in the same color deck that is close, done that 2. i’ve used it for nearly 2 yrs, and i rarely have to tint any thing. the shit seams to match so well. but at times i still use solvent on some cars that look like they’ve been painted in the back yard.
to be honest, i’ve only had to repaint 5 cars because of a bad color match in the last 2 yrs. the more you use the better you’ll like it.May 6, 2011 at 7:39 am #30725good luck with gettin ppg, i could be wrong, but last i heard, they’re not sellin it to the general public. i had and any shop who converts to ppg enviro had to take a 3 part course, convert with confidence program before they let us have it.
i agree with ben, don’t add anything to it either one, your just going to mess things up. there not just a striaght type of water paint but more like a latex type paint. as for your guns it would depend on what you like.
just about any of the guns you listed will spray wb paint, it depends on what you fell comfy with useing.
i’m sure you can put any clear over any base, but however, like ben said, you could have problems down the road.May 2, 2011 at 6:37 am #30665i know in the ppg line, on straight blacks like ford and chrysler is just dmd1683, which is striaght black, and the toyota code 202, is dmd1649 clear toner, 1683 black, 1689 clear binder. that’s it. as you can see the 1649 and 1689 are what gives the black a jet look. for the toyota. ppg does have a couple of blacks, on is, it’s either dmd647 or 1647, which is more of a jet black than 1683. the others are 648 weak black and i believe a newer black, but these are toner blacks to give colors a certain tone of black.
so maybe some straigh black of your choice and add some dbc500, and create your own jet black.April 29, 2011 at 5:06 am #30621
Hey nice write up lild, I to have got the 4000hvlp and have the same conclusion, it has a really large fan pattern but for the clear I find it to be really slow, Im also shooting envirobase. Oh Im spraying out of a 1.3 tip, got a 4000rp with a 1.3wsb tip on the way for a clear gun:cheers
both guns i had have a 1.3 tip. but for clear i use a 1.3 sata rp. i don’t like hvlp’s for clearing for the same reason you stated. if i was you, get a rp or non hvlp gun for clearing, you would be much happier.
April 28, 2011 at 8:12 am #30587i take that back i do have something to add, other than cost, go with what you feel comfortable with, in the long you’ll save more money, time and effort. makeing the change to water can be a hassel, and if you don’t feel confy with it, it will be a bigger waste of time. best thing i say to do is spray the products your intersested in, and not for a day or two either, give them a good run, try to purposely mess it up and as well spraying it like it’s supposed to.
