Shopline,Omni,Nason,Dimension….these are all decent low-mid grade solvent base/clear systems. :deadhorse
Not sure about any low end water bases.
Call your local supplier that carries one of these and you should come out well under 700 bucks.
i already got an estimate from local store, it came out to $550 for DBU paint and PPG 2002 clear, i am not going to shoot omni or shopline basecoat on my car… awful paints, just plain awful! im thinking of getting DBC paint instead of DBU! as a student i get 10% discount at most paint stores around here! :rock and 50% from snap-on:rock :rock :rock :rock :rock
i’m paintin mine this weekend. dbc,dcu2021,dt885,dcx61. how much did i pay?

it may be too cold for the clear your useing, or you could of hammer it on, or used to fast of a hardner for it. plus if you can scratch off the paint, your going to have problem. the base may have sat too long before clearing, and it if did you should of scotch the base and then rebased, and then cleared.

looks really nice!:rock after you finished blocking it and primed it again, what did you sand it with before you shot basecoat?
thanks fox, blocked with 180, then 400, then machined with 600. for the 2nd coat i used 600 grit dry on a soft interface pad, sprayed 2 coats base and sanded again but with 1200 grit wet, then 2 more coats of base. tried to limit any buffing on this thing because its a limo.
i was asking because it seems to have no orange peel! so im guessing the trick is to reduce the orange peel on the primer before you shoot basecoat?
when you sand your primer you won’t have orange peel. however if you put sealer on, you can overreduce it some to help with orange peel. reduce your base the right amount, and you can overreduce your clear some to help with it. you also need to make sure your gun is set up right too.

like i said 2002 has done me well for my all overs. for the nicest flow out i like to use dt95 reducer takes a little longer to dry, but i don’t have to worry about orange peel.

as noted 3000 is best for air drying, i like the 4000,it reminds me of a fast drying 2021. we quit useing 2042 becuase if its dieing issue but mainly, the yellowing problem. but you would want to use 2042 for a all over dries too fast.

as for a top clear the only brand i know of is house of color, maybe duponts glamor clear, i’m sure ppg has something, but these clears are best for show cars, not something you’ll drive on a daily basis. it’s not practicall to spend that much for a dd car.
