Another thing I like about dp, is if you have bare metal showing, u don’t need to etch prime first, it’s a direct application.
August 2, 2012 at 6:23 am #37757It depends, I use ppgs enviro sealer on a daily basis. It lays down nice and flat it will fill 320 da easly. The dp can also be used the like the way u have. But as for how deep of a scratch it will fill I don’t remember. I want to say 220-320. You could always go to their website and get the info on it. How ever if you sand the dp you will have to put another coat of it on before painting.
July 29, 2012 at 12:13 am #37735Well like I said, it’s important to back off to 12-14″ on the control coat. It should look semi dry as you spray it. like paiinting the hood. As you do one side & get to the other side the first half should look dry. Plus when it looks uniformed semi flat look it’s done right. & make sure you do. 90% overlap & faster than your ground coats. Most of the time for me the blotchiness comes from the grouNd coats. & times the control coat fixed that, if it don’t I put another ground coat on. More or less it will take some practice. Not everyone I do comes out perfect.
July 28, 2012 at 10:48 pm #37731Also since I went up to 30% redution things have gotten better & faster. I use a sata 3k like you, it’s portent to be @ 27-29 psi on the ground coats this will help a whole lot, I also had to tighten down the fan spray to a smaller pattern, just seems to help with the over laps as well as the coverage. I tried the wide open didn’t like it, seemed like everything came out slpotchy.
July 28, 2012 at 10:42 pm #37730The blotchiness may be from not getting a good coverage over the sealer. Bleed thru. This is what my guy told me to do. Reduce everything to 30%, make sure your distance is 8″ away from the panel, over lap 70% on the ground coats. Reducing it will help it dry faster, also don’t wet your coats too much, takes longer to dry & will dry splotchy. Make sure you dry the coats @ least 5mins if your using the blowers. Control coat is 17-19 psi @ 90% overlap @ 12-14″ away from the panel, spray it fast, it should look semi dry with just a bit of blueish haze to it, if you spray your control coat to slow & to wet,all u did was put another ground coat on. & use your sungun before you control coat to check for cover & splotchiness. &
It’s really important tht u take your time to get used to it, your speed will pick up when you learn its quirks. Trust me it’s taken me a lil over 2 yrs to get, cause we have one booth, & r a production shop, so rushing everything hust made things worse.July 4, 2012 at 11:27 pm #37576you could also do a few other things. one put a coat of sealer down first, like jay said slower reducer, play with the fan spray wide open isn’t always good. put dbc500 down first then color. make sure your overlaping well enough.
July 1, 2012 at 5:23 am #37541Ppg is Supoosedly to be come ing out with a binder to help with the enviro drying faster on high humid days. But we don’t use a Gardner in any our base’s, wb or solvent.
But like the op, I had the same problem with tape residue being left behind on the color, or the fine line doesn’t want to stick to well to the base. But I’ve only had to do a few two tones, but cause of the few issues I use solvent for the two toneing process.
May 25, 2012 at 5:54 am #37039That should be fine. Ust keep those papers in a folder in you tool box.
May 24, 2012 at 4:24 am #37005actully there is a national rule, exuasht filters must 98% effiecent, you can only spray in a inclose room with ventilation, i.e. the paint booth no more open floor spraying, all guns must be hvlp or compliant. it is my understanding that if your gun has hvlp stamped on it no papers, just the non compliant guns need papers, and sata will tell you need there gauge to make the gun compliant even though it’s a rp. u could spray 3 oz of paint on the open floor, that could make for a long paint job. so forth and so on. the best thing you could do is go down to your local epa office and pick up a current copy of the do’s and don’ts. and your suppose to register with the local office stateing your epa compliant.
May 19, 2012 at 7:40 pm #36958Start with dawn soap wash well like 2 x. Then get a clay bar kit & follow the instructions, do whole car.depending on the depth of the scratch, most time some heavy cut compound can get them out, for others 1500 is all u need. And b carefully, it doesn’t take much to sand thru. And then wash well again after wards.
April 11, 2012 at 7:02 am #36683
If there is anything that can get me rattled when pulling the trigger is DIRT !! You can get clean jobs and soon as you get a few nibs in the clear , everyone has to put their 2cents in, and get me outta my groove!! I recently lowered the ceiling fan speed , to eliminate some dirt in my base. I do everything that everyone else does to prevent dirt, this just happens to be the latest idea, as to eliminate anything in my base. With the dry air temps outside and a little heat, the waterbourne does dry pretty quick at 30 % reduced and lays down the way its supposed to. The detailer CRY’s anytime he has to rub anything..
not sure which system your useing, but i use enviro, i goten away from useing any thing to blow the water dry, i find that it will dry on it’s own just as fast at dbc, or faster. that has been my best bet to keeping trash out, and i use some dx103 sometimes. but i still get some crude in it. i can have good days and bad.February 17, 2012 at 7:55 am #35890even if you can get ppg to bring out some enviro for a demo run, at least you get a feel for it.
February 16, 2012 at 5:04 am #35883Man don’t sweat it. Water is much easier to spray then solvent. Like ben said get the spec sheets on it, & read it.I would assume that the host would give u everything u need. Here’s a few tips, make sure u have the right psi for the gun, & see if it needs a control coat(mets. Only). Try to keeps the gun 8 inches away, move a lil fsaster than u would solvent. If foir some reason they don’t give u blowers, u can always use a hand blower, just barely squee the triger, & like ben said, stand back & blow along the side of the pannel, never @ it. If u move fast enough, it should flash in bout 5-7 mins. Without blowers, with 3-5 mins.. Make sure u use the correct color sealer it will hide faster. & if your in a heated booth while u spray crank the heat up, it will flash pretty quickly, then turn it back down before clear. Cheat code, hahahaha. Man if your teacher ghas sprayed enviro, then it will be no problem for hime to get this.
