It’s true It really comes down to. if you think you’re going to save money by painting your car yourself.
You’re wrong! Very very wrong! You’ll have to put out 2-4 projects before you can say you even broke even.
Hell, I thought the same thing.
“I can paint my car for less”
Now look at me. 6 years and about 35k in equipment and tools later.
And my car still isn’t painted. :roflSeems like how this 68 must’ve looked. It got a real shitty exterior panel job done (Taillight panel, Quarters, Doors, Fenders.) But they did nothing more than a shitty pull job on any of the underside/frame/floors.
And whole frame of the car was way off.
Nearly 2 inches short on one side. about an inch up on the other. And it seems like no matter how deep I get into it I just seem to be getting more and more crush damage.
Started up as the Rear Frame and trunk floors.
Now I’m all the way to the front floor pans.:blink:
Something designed to take a beating? In all honesty, I wouldn’t touch it with anything more than industrial Single Stage. Preferably a soft enamel.
You go with Primer/Base/Clear, I think you’re going to get too much Brittle Film Build. and she’ll chip on you.
At least with the soft Enamel the paint will dent instead of chipping off.
What do they use originally on those things?
Seems like a transparent anodizing or something. :SMy theory here is go all out and get whatever he can out of it.
List all the parts he’s got in it. Do his research and include typical retail value (Even show proof of such value through stores/Internet ect.)Treat it as though he doesn’t want the car back and he wants to recover every dime possible.
Put his foot down, accept no less. Then once he gets the check. Make an offer to wheel and deal to get the car back. That way he can recoup the value of his parts. And if they don’t bite on the offer for the car. He can walk.
I’ve heard a couple of the guys say that if more work is found that they have sent the additional bill to the insurance company, and the insurance did pay for the additional bill.
I’m sure there are limits to this. Like you don’t want to send them a bill 3 times over the original estimate. 😛
Maybe someone that actually deals with insurance companies could fill you in.- AuthorPosts
