I HAVE A SATA3000 still can not get a grip with the gun ,wish i kept my devilbiss.
I wasn’t keen either to be honest, but they are clearly great guns that give great results if they suit you.

My main gripe with SATA is the ridiculous fan adjustment. For me, once my fan is set, it stays set. Why do I need to be able to rapidly adjust it from wide to spot, when in doing so I’d have to make several other adjustments to the gun anyway. It just doesn’t make sense.

Of course it’s a bit of sour grapes coming from me if I’m honest. I’m a lefty, so as soon as I pick up any SATA gun my trigger finger instantly knocks the fan knob onto spot. That’s caused me some grief in the past :rofl
Fuking lefties! 😛 They used to make a conversion kit to move the fan knob but I think they quit. Your lucky over there Andy, they gave you’ll the good Iwata. We get all the hvlp ones. 😡

What your looking for is exactly what glamour is. The PC might be more versatile, I don’t know. I will never get to use it as it doesn’t go over water

See if they can get Lesonal Glamour or Autoclear PC. The PC should be out now or getting ready to come out. I have heard good things about it.

HS+LV is not anything like HS+. I have not heard anything good about the LV myself

Agree with Jayson. It would not be my first choice in an unheated booth. I was never a huge fan of HS+. It can be a finicky clear.

If I was in your situation I would rather use Lesonal Glamour with accelerator if you needed something for a bigger job. I think it lays out better and doesn’t run as easy. Just my 2 cents though.

I’m sure they hold up just fine Rat. It would have had to of passed the UV and salt spray tests and everything else before they release it. The reasons why you will probably never see them is their VOC is higher than some of the solvent clears. Also they get out of just really slow compared to solvent. Unless your spray environment is very clean you would end up with more dirt than solvent.
I don’t believe there are any waterborne clears available…
Sikkens and Lechler both have a waterborne clearcoat in the UK

That gun will work well with HS clears and also waterborne basecoat. it was designed with basecoat in mind but later found out it handled clear as well. Maybe Andy T will chime in but he used a WBX for clear for a little while and believed he got on with it pretty good.

thanks guys… I am using PPG base with PPG med reducer 870.

I am going to try it again tomorrow morning. I think I am going to try it like you guys said. Up a little higher. I’m going to try to just dust in the color to cover in an X pattern one more time and hope it blends good this time. Last time I did it at 10 and 15 psi. Not sure what I should do this time?

I’ll let you guys know how it came out.
Get rid of the 870 and get some 885 at least. you want to slow down the mix to give the metallics time to orientate. 870 is just to fast for that color on a hood. 885 or 895 would be better. also if you have some dbc500 you can mix that 50:50 with your base and do your last coat or 2 with that mix. It really helps on difficult colors when using DBC
Very good advice here. I think DBC flashes fast with just 885 even in moderate temps. Also the silver cap isnt the hottest cap for metallics. It is hard to get anything but a small droplet out of it and that is exactly the opposite of what you need with metallic base. By the time you get the droplet size large enough the pressure of the gun is too low and it has a uneven pattern.

If your interested I have a purple cap for that gun that is made for hard to spray metallics. I would sell it if interested. I don’t spray solvent anymore and doubt I will ever use it again.

Cool pics Jayson. An old car to paint maybe once a year is a good change but not that damn many.
did u spray it in red sealer first? i wish i did the same with the gold i sprayed yesterday :chair looks like its coming along nicely tho, nice work :cheers
I’m curious too. Is that red sealer or 360?. Does the gold cover over that better? Never thought of it but some gold Fords used to use a red undercoat…Hmmmm

I personally like smaller pads. The majority of the pads I use are 5.5 and 6.5 inch pads. You will get better control out of a smaller pad. Even doing large panels the largest pad I use is a 7 inch Meguiars pad.

As far as compounds and polishes go I would recommend Meguiars 105 and 205 and anything in the Menzerna lineup. The key ones to remember in their lineup is Powergloss for really heavy cut, Super Intensive polish to get rid of heavy compounding marring and Superfinish to leave a swirl free finish. those 3 should do everything you need. In certain instances Powerfinish is nice to have.

3M ultrafina is a nice finishing polish but not needed with Menzena superfinish.

Use copper and sweat the joints. It dissipates heat better than other metals.
