It’s not really that uncommon. Most people stick to one company though. I use Spies Hecker clear on Cromax Pro. Cromax was designed off of Permahyd which is Spies. Dupont didn’t buy Herberts for it’s market share, they bought it for the technology.
By sticking with one company I mean
BASF- R-M or Glasurit
PPG- PPG or Nexa (used to be ICI)
Dupont- Spies Hecker, Standox, or Dupont
Akzo Nobel- Sikkens or LesonalThere shouldn’t be any warranty issues as long as you stay with the same company or don’t use their economy line.
December 15, 2009 at 11:25 pm #17942Hey Andy, I’m pretty sure it’s 6690. It will be hard for me to find something that beats Spies Hecker 8035. I just love that clear. Lays flat, dries good, easy to buff, and won’t pop.
What do you think looks better, the Nexa or Debeer?
December 15, 2009 at 6:49 pm #17931PPG isn’t bad, I just think Cromax is easier. I still don’t really like their clears. They are supposed to be bringing in a Nexa clear for me to try.
how do you compare it to glasurit or rm? also, i have only used waterborne once to airbrush with but for those of you that use it, how do you or can you wipe it down?? if something sits in base for a while before clearing can you wipe dry waterborn base down with w&g remover or something like that the way you can solvent base or is it too delicate? is there a special product for this?
Waterborne W&G remover will wipe it off. Solvent should be fine. I have never used Onyx or 90-line so I can’t give any opinion on it.
December 14, 2009 at 3:55 pm #17844I can see where someone not trained on Dupont would think it was junk. It isn’t like any other manufactures waterborne. The application is totally different. I personally like it. It’s a very fast product. I have a few complaints but overall it works well.
December 14, 2009 at 7:14 am #17830I have heard that Sherwin is having delam issues with their waterborne. I either hear that Envirobase is the greatest thing since sliced bread or that it sucks. I don’t think it’s bad. I would spray it. I think Dupont has the edge on waterborne basecoat. I didn’t like their clear at all. I like their 2021 clear but you can’t use it with EHP.
If I was going on appearance I would pick Sikkens Autowave and Superior 250 clear. Off the gun I haven’t sprayed anything that looked better.December 13, 2009 at 7:24 pm #17799I would shy away from used guns. You never really know what your getting. If you know who the owner is that would be fine but from Ebay? There are some deals to be had, just be patient. I picked up a Sata wsb some time ago off Ebay that was listed wrong and nobody but me bid on it. Just be careful. I look on there all the time and very rarely do I see something that I think is a deal.
If you were going to get a Plus just buy a new one. They don’t cost that much new.
December 10, 2009 at 4:09 pm #17710Are you talking about HPC15? If so…
One of my good friends works at a shop that was on Sherwin up till a few months ago. I have been over there and seen the clear several times. It is one of the nicest fast drying clears I have seen. It held a good gloss and air dried quick.
I think it would be nice to have for those times when you need to get something out in a hurry.
December 9, 2009 at 4:34 pm #17670Here is a link to the way I mask. Rat already put up the video. This does the same thing the ezedger does. I have the ezedger and just do it by hand because it’s faster for me. I think it is the same thing Andy is talking about also.
Stone, think what you want… what you see are the first cars I have painted, and that was about 2 to 3 months ago. I have nothing to prove by lying about this. Sorry you feel like that.
He was paying you a compliment. 🙂 Can’t take everyone too seriously around here! :welc
December 7, 2009 at 2:33 am #17571For couplers get prevost. Chemicals don’t hurt these. I will get some info on the hoses. If interested I can see if my father can get you a deal. We got ours for under what the parts stores sell the cheap red ones for. He has a few different colors to. We have grey, black, and blue ones. That way if they are laying on the floor it makes it easier to tell which is which.
