The amount of money it would of cost and time to Cut and reweld both bedsides would have been like 2k-3k and the box cost $650.00 so after I fixed some small dings here and there replace all graphics and stainless trim repaint outside of box total was $1900.00
I told the owner the only way to get by with not having to worry about the rust comin back was to buy a new take off ($3500.00) they opted for the $1900.00
what I would do is sandout the paint chip and feather edge around it a few inches then use a primer to build up the area start with a small first pass and the second coat go a little further and the third past the second to create a smooth transition
third coat……..———————
second coat…….————
first cost…………….—–sand with 220-320 up to 600 if you so desire rebase the spot gray scuff the rest of the gate and reclear
since there is no dent you should not be using a filler (unless you mean a roll on primer but then you should be using a foam roller not a brush)
Also 1000 grit is kinda over kill well to me anyway I base over 320 most of the time with no problems at all I have gone to 600 thoas for a decent gun check on Sharpe and Devilbiss you can get a starting line set from Devilbiss for under $150.00 for 3 gun set. I have used them before not bad and beats spending 2k for a good set of guns that you will need a big air system to run.
Does it get cold by you there? If so, If you do end up running an outside air line consider a heat tape and some insulation on the piping thats outside prolly going to need a 1 1/2″ line or bigger to feed it I worked at a place once and we had problems with the line freezing shut(supplied 500CFM of 120PSI Air) and the buildings were 20 feet apart Heat tape did wonders no problems(til heat tape dont work lol) just a heads up maybe you have everything worked out tho.
Building looks great
Ya I agree with Ding your spreader is your friend keep it in good shape and dont let anyone else use it spread it nice and the job will be much nicer, Dont do it all in one coat either build it up it may take a few coats. that was a lot of filler must of had some extra time to kill to mow down those mountains
looking good tho and I wish I had a GFS booth!

I should add I would try to mix some toner in with your black and also try adding pearl to a clear binder and treating it like a 3 stage and see which color you like better
te
X 2 I would also do the tri coat but it depends on your painting ability. If ya spray on black with a clear binder/pearl ya gotta do it right or it will be light/heavy in spots and look bad. mixing some pearl in with the base is prob the way to go just take your paint to the auto supply and keep adding small amount of pearl until ya get the color you want.
x3 this is what I do also mix up some toner and clear base and add mixing pearls till taste ( I mean till you like it )haha
for me I do a 70/30/10 Base to Base Clear to Base Converter and add 10grams of pearl to start (for a quart) of course I Use PPG DBC so the red pearl I would use would be the PRLX1 Red Pearlso you will need to do some playing around with your system
I just did a Black with Silver pearl in it for a guy and he absolutely loves it Looks like a plain black from a distance but when your next to it in the sun it pops
Also harley has a color called Black cherry thats a very nice color just a basecoat so no worries of tricaot problems might be worth a look into
the black paint from PPG is Toner DMD1683 in the Deltron(DBC) this is a straight black paint . If your a harley fan this is also called “Vivid black” or ford Fan “Raven Black” there are prolly hundreds of blacks that are exactly the same just a name change
them are some very old paint lines havent heard of the 22 line in years and ditzler is an old PPG line
and the color code 9000 from PPG is just the straight DMD1683 toner
