I’m debating on which color to spray first when I get to the booth. Which would you guys do? I don’t want to get any red metallic flakes in my white. Either way I think I will end up using the shop vac to clean the floor again before I spray the clear.

you can tell when it is a factory repaint, because it is usually shiny in beetween the layers. somehow there paint sticks to itself and they dont sand it. You can see the shiny in the layers of the feather edge.
I’ve noticed that too. I always wondered what the process was. I just assume with them using different products and being fresh that it gets great chemical adhesion. I’ve never seen one peel…
Yeah I noticed the shine on each different level and thought it was weird. Maybe they are painting so soon after it doesn’t have to be sanded? I know I’ve read that some clearcoats can be recoated within 24 hours without sanding. This is the hood I was speaking of. There was one dent that really gave me some trouble which is why it’s feathered out like it is. The top layer of primer was from me. I was trying to work it out with an 11″ block and just couldn’t seem to get it worked out so I made a 3′ one out of a 1×4. Wish I did this kind of stuff more often so I would be more proficient at it.

Yeah that was an error on my part. They didn’t list the KU152 on the website so I assumed it was the KU150. It’s been taken care of though. I appreciate you bringing it up though. By the way how did you like the clear? The tech guy I talked to said to let it flash for about 20-30 minutes before going into the next coat or it will run like crazy.

I have my compressor setting outside of the garage in a corner and my air line leaves the compressor and goes up through the soffit of the house and runs along the rafters. This goes all the way up to the peak of the roof and then comes down from there into a cheap 50 micron filter. From there it goes into a sharpe 606 5 micron filter and then from there into a devilbiss qc3. I get a lot of water in the first separator and a little in the second one. I really need to run a larger solid pipe but this is doing ok for now. Those qc3 filters are quite expensive.

I will get a better pic of the red later with my camera. The phone doesn’t do the color justice. Looks really nice.

Ordered 4 ounces of this. Got something planned for it but I will have to do some experimenting before final decision.

Have you checked on any prices on any red’s yet? If not be prepared to spend a lot. Seems to be the most expensive color to have mixed. Cheapest I’ve seen so far was in the Nason line and it was around $40 a qt but not sure about coverage. Once you step up to Dupont and any other reputable name brand you are looking at around $200+ a qt.

I ordered some house of kolor meteor maroon 2 and it should be in the end of this week. I will be spraying some practice panels and will post some pictures if you would like to see it in the sun.
First, with the glass leave it. If it is urethane, it is best to leave a thin smooth even layer. Urethane has excellent cohesion and will stick better to itself than other materials…so leave it to the glass guy to do what he feels is best.

As for the hole, I would be tempted to weld. And if you cut patches for bonding, you could use those fir welding, it will make it easier.

You can bind if you insist… The only problems there is you may get ghosting later on, and some bonding products cannot be filled over with polyester filler or putty.
Some of the urethane in the corners of the glass was missing so I figure the guy will have to re prime it anyway but I will let him do what he feels is best.

I will talk to a guy at work Tuesday about welding the holes. I will get him to waterjet me some and see about welding them in. It’s crazy..one of our engineers knows nothing about welding or pretty much anything other than playing a bass and computers. He thought it would be nice to have a plasma and tig welder so he just went out and bought one. Been sitting in his garage never used for 2 years. He said he wanted to make a grill out of a beer keg.

I would do the carbon first, lay the lettering and then spray the black. Just be careful to not get the black really thick where it leaves a tall paint edge. After spraying I always remove the vinyl and go around the edges with my finger and knock all the edges off so they aren’t standing up when cleared. Just make sure you tac everything before you clear to clean up what you knocked off. Probably wouldn’t hurt to put a coat of clear over the art work first, let that flash and then clear everything. That way you are kinda burying your paint edge.

Yeah but I’m doing some interior parts and I’m always using white and metallic red paint on small projects. This will save me a lot of money because the red is only $50 a qt compared to $100 a pint from dupont.

I wish I had ordered the paint last week so it would be in to go ahead and do the jambs and inner fenders. I had a few small areas with some surface rust where I stripped paint so tomorrow I’m going to go ahead and epoxy and 2k this side door jamb.

I think I’ve finally made up my mind on the colors. House of Kolor Meteor Maroon II on top, white on the bottom with a grey stripe from front to back with 1/4″ silver stripes on top and bottom of that. In my cart right now I’ve got 3 gallons of reducer, 1 gallon of white, 1 gallon of red, 1 gallon kit of sealer, 1/4″ fineline tape, 1/8″ fineline tape, 50 sheets 500 grit wet paper, 2 gallons clear, 3 qts activator, 1 roll transparent masking paper, 1 qt Galaxy Grey II, 1 qt intercoat clear and 4 oz of a secret additive that I want to try out. Comes up to $1300 which I guess isn’t too bad I don’t suppose. The new Shimrin 2 line is supposed to meet and exceed all voc regulations and has a lower voc that waterborne. I suuuuure could use to motivation clicking that submit button…… :exci

Forgot to take pics of the fender after I had stripped it and repaired the lower portion but here it is in epoxy and 2k:

Evercoat Everglass on rear cab corner:

    2nd coat:

I put Rage Gold on top of that after I had it sanded out but didn’t get a pic. Here it is with a coat of metal glaze:

And all sanded out and straight:

Sanding on door jambs. This is where I cut corners the first time I painted it and I’m paying for it now. Those hinges take forever to get prepped.
