Mocoke – I find WB flashes more quickly than solvent base in the right conditons. Sure it doesn’t lend itself well to painting without a spraybooth, but if you have a decent booth airflow, and some blowers/air movers to pass turbulent air over the panels, it’s pretty quick drying. Most solvent seems to have 15 minutes per coat as a recommended flash time, 5-6 will do for WB ;)[/quote]

So spraying waterborne without paint booth can be PITA?

I paint in auto repair (mechanic) garage during weekends and NO problems whatsoever spraying solvents *knock on wood*.

If you want the Iwata to spray clear, get the silver cap (LV4?)

Orange (LVX) and purple (lvb) caps are basecoat caps.

the pressure difference is not important, the Iwata needs 9.5 cfm to operate and your compressor has 12.85 cfm.

Used guns are fine if you know about the guns condition.

If its a Sata that was dropped, you are likely going to pay $200 for a nozzle “kit”. Inspect the holes in fluid tip and cap, make sure they are round and even.

You can buy the Plus gun from Len for $287.95.

For Iwata you can et them new around $450 or used from ebay.

Spraying clear with the Plus gun is kinda like spraying with RP:
    same speed, same fan.

In fact, I was going to get the Plus gun, but good a great deal on
a Sata RP so I got it.
However the Sata is well built and well-balanced, but parts can be
    pricey though.

    +1

It does seem you are a serious hobbyist, these are the guns I’d
buy for clearcoat, in order of more $ to les $.

    Sata RP 3000 1.3
    Iwata LPH400 1.4
Devilbiss GFG-670 Plus comes with 3 tips: 1.2,1.3,1.4

I’d get a separate gun for basecoat though. If you want only one gun for both BC/CC, get the Iwata. Use the silver cap for CC, and get a gold/purple cap for BC.

Compliant guns like GFG-670 and RP are better for clear. They
atomize better, they are faster and you can keep 8 inches from
    panel.

I don’t know about that, I’m sure the shine would be fine for me. :cheer:

But its for winter, when snow, salt and mud cover up your car 80% of time, so I don’t think that’s an issue for me.

I use Collinite 845 wax, very durable and last long.

Klasse also makes great sealants, I have one sitting around, but I’m saving it for next car!

I remember someone suggested powdercoat kit from Eastwood.

I’d like to try it, but I’m pretty sure you need an oven, which I don’t have, nor I have a place to do it.

1.3 will work great, but I’d get 1.4 for faster spraying, specially with most high solids clears available.
My 1.4 Iwata is kinda slow for me.

I’d think same gun, Sata NR HVLP.

The gun body looks a lot like Astro EVO4014.

    Great responses, thanks everyone! :welc

The Sata digital NR is close to $750-$950 in Canada, depending where you buy.

The gun is brand new in box, so even with purchase of a needle set, its gonna be same price as brand new, but, I can always sell the needle set in ebay, or use Glasurit waterbsase.

I’ll go back and pick it up on Monday. :exci

    Thanks for reply everyone.
I’ve also heard R-M Onyx and Glasurit 90-Line are very similar,
but their recommended tips are different.
    I guess R-M is a bit thicker?

Hopefuly Glasurit is as user friendly as R-M, its not finicky as Sikkens is it?
R-M sure has nice coverage and excellent color match.
