How are you liking that w66 backing pad? I picked one up awhile back but haven’t used it yet.

:cheer: Sounds familiar,, Can’t even count the number of times the wife would ask if we were taking the “Camaro” when going off somewhere back when I had my Corvette.

I’ve always used it on any sort of lap joint. I figure it helps more than it hurts.

I think the average person simply thinks that you have roughly $5-$10 tied up in materials on any job from a spot repair through an overall refinish and anything over that amount is pure profit.

I like to do those cars with the doors on and the front end sheetmetal off. Same way the factory did it. Jambs and shell in the same application = no tape lines in jambs and the bolt heads on the door hinges get body color like factory.

I would’ve tried it today if they had the hardener in stock.

I’m not 100% sure if I was getting quoted shop pricing on it or not. The guy quoting me those prices was on a separate terminal from the guy getting the rest of my order put together, but, I can’t imagine that he wasn’t under my account while yelling out prices. I”m supposed to get a discount under my account there.

    I paid $46.81/Gallon for 15222 and $23.25/qt for fh411 hardener = $70.06 for the kit.

First I’ve seen of the Acme / Finish 1.

    June 21, 2009 at 10:45 pm #14757

    $80/kit for you maybe.

I just tried to buy some today. $89/gallon for the primer and $31/qt for the ch258 hardener. Little rich for my blood but I was gonna try it anyway just to make bondo happy and see what all the fuss is about. They didn’t have the hardener in stock though……

Sooo…. I picked up the old standby 15222 instead. Less than $80 for the kit. I got Crossfire labeled primer and Acme labled hardener.

First paint supplies I’ve bought in over a year. Got a little sticker shock on the tube of metal glaze I picked up. Was damned near $30. Was like $18 last time I bought any.

Hard to believe the CP440 is really $50/gallon better than the 15222. I’ve always been happy with 15222.
I have been using DP800 – DIMENSION Epoxy Primer on my current project and it lays down nice.
Pretty sure thats the same as Martin Senour CP 400. Mixes like 8:4:1 ?

I haven’t used any in years. Always found it was kinda gummy even after a few days of dry time, but yeah, it does lay down nice.

I’ve used alot of Kirker epoxy in the past but am trying to get away from Kirker anything.

I still like MS 15210 Etching primer.

Usually use MS 15222 for 2K.
I second what everybody else says, bevel your edges before proceeding with the glass filler should help with the ghosting jimmos talkin about. If this is a customer car you should tell them to buy a good glass hood if they want a molded scoop. Keep track of your time on this, even the head scratching parts and you will find it is killing your earnings. Also never forget that the car has your name all over it, pleased customers might tell 10 people what a wonderful work you do, pissed customers will tell 100 people how you F’d up theirs. Remember that YOU the professional always know best even if it means refusing customers wishes to use parts they supply, or other things beyond your control which may not give the best over all result.
Sound Advice ^^^^^^^

Cerbia, Why on earth you would spend 3+ years working on 1 customers car which is supposed to be a billboard for your work, only to glass a GT-350 bolt on scoop onto a stock hood is beyond me.

Especially considering that fiberglass versions of the exact thing your trying to pull off are readily available.

How do you plan on addressing the underside of the hood if you rivet or bolt this thing down? It’s gonna look like @$$ at a car show with studs and rivets hanging under there.
