I don’t like the gigantic pads either. I’ve been using the meguiars 7″ pads for a long time, and like most ‘full size’ pads they are designed to go on a 6″ backing plate. a 3″ pad could practically be put on a die grinder with the air dialed down :rock
December 29, 2010 at 2:10 pm #26561I’ve been thinking about getting a 3″ at some point, since I do small paint work most of the time, and a 3″ would be plenty for the whole job. ‘
seems like a big ol motor with a tiny pad would kind of defeat the purpose of a small maneuverable sander or polisher…. maybe not.
you don’t have any air at all?
December 29, 2010 at 2:06 pm #26560I stick to hand sanding until I get up a bit finer than that. at least up to 180 to ensure it’s flat.
I know some guys don’t do that, but I hate those waves

I heard about this place last year, and never had to look anywhere else. great prices, great to deal with.
December 24, 2010 at 11:47 am #26419those emblems look great!
I really like that chevy body style. nice work throughout.
December 24, 2010 at 10:30 am #26417I ordered up a new sander, CP 869S, a velcro backing pad, some paint eating 3m discs, and a few other items.
I’ll be trying this stuff out, including a little experiment of mine.
I’ll get some pics up when I start knocking paint of my truck. possibly even a video.
December 23, 2010 at 1:16 pm #26368what do you guys recommend for guys like me without a booth? I have been planning on getting a couple gallons of Tacky Coat for the walls, thinking it would really cut down on the dust settling…. Is the stuff bogus?
December 22, 2010 at 11:11 pm #26359looking pretty sweet Nex. That mini booth setup is great for what it is, and where it is, but some more airflow would sure be nice. You’re working in a cloud like me :dnc
December 17, 2010 at 11:27 am #26265I saw a video with that fancy pants door skinner tool, and I shorted out my keyboard with a puddle of drool. I’ve never done a door skin, but I’m a pretty hardcore tool junkie, and I’d probably buy one if I had a single skin to do :wak
December 10, 2010 at 1:22 am #26053I have a buddy, and former roommate, who has a nasty old bronco II. the rear 3′ of frame rusted right off…. so he got some 11 gauge sheet metal bent in the shape of the frame tube, and welded it all back up… no big deal. :rofl
I can’t even imagine taking on a frame job at home… not my idea of fun even with the proper equipment.
December 7, 2010 at 12:42 pm #25927sweet!
so that little wire does the trick eh?
jumper cables sounds like a great idea to me. I’ll have to try that next time.
December 6, 2010 at 11:27 am #25908I have come to believe that restraint is a very valuable trait in the workplace. I’d stick with it as long as you can stand it, and then some. until another job comes along that actually can pay well and give better work environment, hang in there. I’ve had a couple of crappy jobs, but let’s face it; in reality, most jobs suck.
I, too, wish you the best.
December 6, 2010 at 3:59 am #25890I’ve heard a few guys on here mention using SS black, and clearing it. the depth of SS black is sure awesome.
very nice work.
