Works fine right now Jimmo.. What we need is more traffic, new guys signing up and posting asking questions.. We also need our members to start threads.. It takes allot to get a forum off the ground and to get the traffic like you see at 101.. Allot of networking went into that site..
January 6, 2009 at 1:40 am #12208Well here it is setting outside waiting for the guy to come and get it.. B)

January 5, 2009 at 6:10 am #12201Its buffed out, and I found some sparkle on the passenger side when I buffed the door.. The drivers side fender was sparkleless though:P .. Guess he never noticed so wont mention it now:evil:
Jimmo that paint code is NH592P.. Its a pretty color if you could see the pearl more .. If you gotta stick your face up to the panel to see the pearl, its not enough in my opinion
Ding yes I taped off the engine compartment etc.. Now I did not bag the car or anything like that, but they get washed and masked off all over.. I usually tape the plastic or paper to the body sides, but I dont mask all the way down the seam of it or anything,, I used to, but did not make any difference.. Floor is cleaned prior to spraying etc.. You gotta remember also, I am shooting this in a tiny space and I have a 16 foot door right in front or behind whatever I paint that collects dirt and dust like a mother scratcher, then throw in the torpedo heater that will stir up even more dust and dirt, but hell you gotta keep the place warm and I learned the hard way you cant spray, raise the door and let it set, or the clear will run down the panel after a bit.. Gotta have heat 🙂
I have even tried just using the windows.. One for exhaust and one for intake.. both with filters.. had even more dirt like that.. It just pulled it from every crack and corner of the place.. the only time I shot anything of any size fairly clean was when I would hang plastic everywhere.. but that takes hours and I still get dirt..
Now my buddy Jim Clark, can shoot all day in his garage and get next to no dirt.. I dont get it.. at my last house where i had a shop out back, dirt was not nearly an issue as it is here, but it was twice the size of this place too and I think that has something to do with it since you cant clean all that great.. I mean I have cabinets on every wall, as well a work bench and another bench on the opposite side.. then I have 3 more floor cabinets that keep all my paint etcc..,. Plenty places for dust to set and wait
So am I missing something?? I used to think it came from me, I would shower, no deoderant, coveralls, hair net etc etc etc.. still dirt.. so i just give up:ohmy:
January 4, 2009 at 10:49 pm #12193Well boys I have just come to the conclusion that I will never get clean paint jobs out of here.. That damn hood has too much dirt in it.. Seems like more this morning than it did last night.. got to sand and buff it.. CRAP.. just what this car needed  😛
Never again Dinger:evil:
after its sanded it will get the engine bay cleaned, new spark plugs, wires and an air filter.. He is bringing it back next friday for a new rear bumper, taillight and quarter extention.. shame he does not fix the quarter panel and door:P
January 4, 2009 at 9:21 am #12190Well crap I had this all typed up and must have closed out the window
Worked on the car this morning, then spent the rest of the day until late afternoon watching my girls while my wifey ran errands.. Got back on it tonight and got it finished.. It was sealed with SPI black epoxy, then 2 coats of base, 1 hour to flash out good, then 3 wet coats of SPI Universal Clear.. I would have only shot 2 coats of clear on it, but mixed up waaaaay more than i needed by accident.. Hey its late:ohmy:
Anyways, I can see NOW that it has little tiny blue specs all in the base… read pearl  .. the rest of this $hit car does not, so i hope the owner does not trip.. Its been repainted and guess they did not spend the money on the correct base:P I could not see it until I shot the clear.. Hang on let me go look at the base can.. yep white and blue pearl.. Maybe the painter should have looked at what was in the can before he left the paint store or shot the base……. hmmmmmmmmm:blink:

January 3, 2009 at 9:27 pm #12188I saw that thread Jimmo.. Its the same stuff Barry has been telling me for years.. I have learned tons of information from Barry on how all these chemicals behave alone and with one another..
Dinger, I was meaning i would take the hood off and hang it vertically since when its flat it will catch every single spec of dirt that happens to float around and fall.. Im sure it would still get some specs here and there, but not that many.. I dunno, really just didnt want to buff this thing as it shouldnt be anywhere near that slick.. Its already going to have more gloss etc as it is
January 3, 2009 at 8:00 pm #12185Im liking it ding.. In and out.. kinda like…. well….
Jimmo glad things went well for you.. I also thought of you when I taped up the car and the front end instead of removing stuff:evil: I have considered removing the fender and hood so I can hang them and not have to buff it.. What do yall think??
paint parts on car and have to buff, or unbolt parts, hang then paint and not have to buff?? still got to reinstall them though:huh:

Everything in 2k and sanded with P600.. two hours between last coat and sanding.. I sanded it wet
Will buzz over it with a P400 and soft interface before I shoot it as it still has texture.. I just sanded it wet with the P600 to speed the drying/curing process.. you know moisture kicks iso’s, so a high moisture content ( read wet sanding ) will help it cure faster.. I also added in some accelerator to the primer.. Gosh dang whats with me being in a hurry:woohoo: :woohoo:January 3, 2009 at 4:21 pm #12182:laugh: you said paint the rest Dinger.. 😆 This guy only wants certain area’s fixed.. Cant figure it out either as the whole car is trashed on the outside.. If you see the hood good in some of those pics in my photo bucket album, thats pretty much the way the rest of the car looks..
Bondo ole buddy, about half way thru the hood repair, I thought why in the world am I fixing this when I could just buy a new hood for the price I charged to fix this one. I was stupid on this hood.. Hell I still gotta put it in 2k and shoot the color today.. If I had bought a hood, it would be done.. Live and learn boys live and learn..
I gotta admit, all the years I have been spending my time on overalls and muscle cars, I could have made more money doing little jobs like this I think.. The turn around is tons faster and since you can do more cars like this I think the money is better, especially since the economy has taken a dump here in the US..
Well boys I sanded down the poly (G2) last night, so this morning its getting 3 coats of spi turbo 2k… I have to prime it instead of just sealing it.. It has alot of bodywork already in the hood and shit paint job that as I broke thru the poly last night was not feathering and I could scratch it off with my nail down to one of the other paint jobs:huh: Yeah I said 1 of the OTHER paint jobs:P
By the way did everyone have a great Christmas and New Year?? I hope so!!!!
Happy new years fellow mud slingers:evil:
