Jimmo it has to do with the solvents and resins also.. Can only use certain resins as well as solvents in the low voc products.. that is their drawbacks best to my memory.. Of course its been years since he and I talked abou that very subject, but I still think after all the fumes and uh hum smoke ( remember burning the blend:laugh: ) that was the gig brotha

November 15, 2008 at 2:06 am #11823I buy the highest VOC they sell at the jobber:laugh:
Barry always told me the higher voc products were generally much better than there low counterparts… He even says the same about his own Cali products.. Thats what I call them.. Flippin California jackasses.. No offense Han.. i think he is a Cali boyNovember 15, 2008 at 2:04 am #11822Looks good brother..Now you need to catch a flight to Louisville and finish this second fender for me.. My arms are getting tired:(

November 7, 2008 at 5:14 am #11767Yeah brother gonna cut it with 150, then buzz that with some P400 on a DA with a soft interface pad and put this baby in 2k.. then he can pay me tomorrow for at least this fender.. He may want me to stop when he see’s the bill for this one..
I quoted this job at $150 plus materials.. I thought it sounded better to him as it was under 200 but I knew the materials could easily add up to 50 bucks or possibly more, so I knew I would make at a bare minimum 150 for myself.. Don’t think he can hardly complain for that price anyways..He stopped in yesterday in the middle of the afternoon as I was sanding my sculpture.. He had a big surprised look in his eye when he saw the sea of mud:ohmy: , but I reminded him that he was paying for this type of job.. he agreed.. He still looked kind of freaked out with all that mud on there:huh:
Does my procedures seem excessive bondo?? On show work I always prime, block with 180/150 re prime probably block with 180/150 again, then if it is straight as a board I will re prime and block with 320 before my sealer.. This one will just get one final blocking of the poly and then it goes in 2k.. He can sand it before he paints it later.. Plus i don’t have to concern myself with a sealer either.. I have always found a couple prime and blocking sessions can make or break a paint job.. This is really evident when you are going for that show finish in the paint.. any little thing being off is magnified greatly

November 7, 2008 at 1:33 am #11762Yes I wonder where I got that particular block…. Oh yeah, my old old buddy Jim (JCCLARK) got that for me..
Well my other old old buddy bondo…. uh what the hell is your name bondo:laugh:   anyways under his tutelage I have decided to give polyester primer one more try.. Last time I used it I was just not happy with the end results.. I found that it would chip off like a lacquer primer job with bc/cc over it:P
But that was using the old version “Feather Fill”.. Today I bought the G2.. It was out when I used the feather fill before, but my jobber said there warehouse only carried the feather fill and not the G2.. Plus it was cheaper..Today I went to my Matrix jobber to buy this gallon of G2It was cheap today, only $55.. and it smells like body filler you spread, but the old Feather Fill had a different smell, it did not smell like regular old body filler..
So here is what I did.. Mixed 16 ounces and half a tube of activator.. I hate those flippin activator tubes.. I also added 10-15% FAST Reducer.. Matrix store does not carry acetone because they use it to make meth the guy said.. that is the reason I used fast reducer.. I know however that any reducer product slows this stuff down pretty good so I have been told and learned from personal experience the last time I used polyester primers..
Shot 3 coats with about 10 minutes flash on the first coat and 5 on the last 2 coats.. Used all 16 Oz’s.. Sprayed it out of an HVLP Astro QUL 1.9
Now for the results.. man it sure sprayed nice:evil:
looks good ta me hey what ya gonna prime your sculpture with bondo ???? poly right or no??
Have not decided.. I have a little 2k left that I want to use up so may just use it.. I would like to poly it, but dont have any poly here and dont want to buy a gallon of the stuff right now.. Last time I bought any poly in the winter it went bad by the next summer.. Let me call my jobber and see if they got some quarts of the MarhydeB)
November 6, 2008 at 7:01 am #11753Update:
Its ready for prime except for a spot or 2 that needs a skim of putty.. Going to go ahead and put it in prime to get that part out of the way.. I will reprime the whole thing one more time before giving it back to the owner..
I also took some pictures of this little flexible block.. I used it to shape the whole fender.. So many guys go on about having a perfectly flat block, yada fukin yada fukin yada,, bullshit.. If you know what you are doing, you can work mud with your fingers without ever touching a block.. I am not saying throw away your blocks.. Just saying the internet has a way of stretching the reality of what many of us do..
