It really depends on what kind of jobber you have in your area with great service. Some brands are better than others but you should look for colormatch, ease of use etc.I would try some demos of different products that are in your area instead of putting in a system and jumping in head first.

Can’t comment on the nomix transtar but the other low voc bases are pretty chunky looking and hard to blend.Welcome back to painting, maybe the other painter won’t come back and it could be your full time gig.If you get a chance take some pics of your shops set up and post them.Where are you from?

The existing structure of this old girl is at least 35 years old or more.It was originally a brick room with devilbiss doors(sadly devilbiss in barrie ontario went out of bussiness in the late 90’s) that was set up like a pressurized crossflow with an air makeup. Then in 85 or 86 my boss and an engineer from binks came down and did all the neccesary measurements and planning to turn it into a downdraft. They dug a pit, installed a stack and a tubeaxil exhaust fan and made the existing heat/air makeup come down from the ceiling thru the filters. When we changed over to water the paint reps were blown away how well it worked in r3egards to airflow,we didn’t have to do a thing. So for over 20 years this was the only booth in the shop until they bought another one in 2005.THis booth serves double duty for cars/trucks and semis.Every couple of years we sand it and paint it,clean the stack and fan,and had a gas valve changed this past winter in the air makeup(35-40years old).So here is a pic just before it got a major cleaning.

Don’t use either of them and use utech 200 or 3.5,they are just as good if not better and easy on your wallet too :cheers

Its a little better with a 1.4 speed wise, but for big jobs the 3000 is faster.Sadly I’m stuck digging the first gen rp the best :wak The 3000rp is still slower than a jet 90,it still does a great job with superior :cheers

Check for obvious things, look at your air cap to see if the holes are plugged or damaged, look at the needle tip, look at the fluid tip to see if it is round, damaged or dirty.Put up a piece of masking paper and check for a nice fan pattern.Satas are bullet proof, not very often you have to change the nozzle set but if these things don’t check out and your pattern is distorted and everything is clean it is time to change it out.

    I have a 4000rp,but I use the older model rp’s instead.

Just in case someone has an old unispotter you can change the tip to the magnetic one http://www.hsautoshot.com/StudEase.html If I was doing collision again I don’t think I would ever use one now that we have one of the panel beater machines,it is the cats azz.

Lesonal SB reducer or utech R200 reducers(can still buy the utech in canada 😉 ) and it works better than that atomizing crap

Wow man you are bringing me back to the good old days,I sprayed quite a bit of that back in the day.I would suggest lesonal sb reducers, they are pretty close to the old 123 reducers, even utech 200 series reducers would work.
